Make Your Extension Yours

Designing your dream kitchen extension can be incredibly exciting and offers the perfect opportunity to incorporate features that you’ve always wanted. When initially thinking about your new kitchen, it is important to consider what features will enhance the space, and make it efficient to use. We have created a list of four important factors to start thinking about now to make sure you’re final design is not only completely unique to you, but also practical and ultimately enhances the space in every way possible.

Wonderful Views

Adding an extension gives the perfect opportunity to bring the outside in by creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. When designing your extension, consider having a large opening to allow for this merging of spaces. Bi-fold doors allow you to completely open up the room and connect the interior with the garden. If you combine this with a level threshold, when you fold back the bi-fold doors there is nothing distracting the outside from the in. Seamless floor finishes can create a flawless finish and really disguise the divide between inside and out, creating the impression of one huge space.

Surplus Light

One of the great perks of building an extension is having larger and strategically placed windows, allowing a surplus amount of natural daylight into the property. There are four main types of roof windows to consider that would be a stylish addition to your home; Velux, skylights, inflected skylight or an all glass roof. Velux windows come in all shapes and sizes and our clients very rarely feel restricted in their choice. You begin to rack up costs when you opt for an all-glass roof, so this is something to keep in mind if you’re sticking to a tight budget. An inflected skylight will bounce light into any corners that are awkward for light to get to and standard skylights can give a really nice sheen finish.

New Style

The most exciting part of your Design & Build journey will be choosing all of the materials and styles for your new space – from the colour of your walls to your new floor, there are thousands of choices at your disposal to make your kitchen completely unique. It is vital you put some thought into your decisions here, as the internal finishes should be practical yet visually pleasing. Our clients in SW17 above, chose a natural and elegant theme for the kitchen, blending furniture, accessories and fittings together perfectly to create a calming and fluid space.

More Zones

The secret to a functional kitchen extension is to create zones within the room which house different functions. The most popular option is to create an open plan living area that zones off specific areas with clever arrangements or furniture. This can be done by segregating the kitchen with a breakfast bar or simply framing an area with a skylight. You can even create zones by using artificial lighting and fixed kitchen fixtures – the options are endless and all create different effects.
